COMMUNITY AND EDUCATION

Community and Education

Proudly supporting people, pets, and the future of our profession.

At Nowra Veterinary Hospital and Bay & Basin Animal Hospital, we believe being a vet means more than treating animals - it means showing up for our community, sharing knowledge, and helping the next generation thrive.

Our ties to the Shoalhaven run deep. Many of our clients have been with us for generations, and we’re proud to contribute beyond the walls of our clinics.

SUPPORTING OUR LOCAL COMMUNITY

We’re long-time supporters of many local organisations and events, including:

  • The Nowra Show - a community tradition we proudly sponsor each year
  • Local sporting teams and clubs, including rugby, netball, touch football and athletics
  • The Shoalhaven City Turf Club - where we’ve provided official race day veterinary services for many years
  • Local high schools - where we host work experience students and are involved with other events, fostering an interest in Agricultural and Veterinary careers, and beyond

We also provide ongoing support to local farmers and producers, delivering on-farm care and advice tailored to our region’s unique needs.

EXTENSION PROGRAMS & SPEAKING ENGAGEMENTS

Our vets regularly deliver extension education programs through Dairy Australia and other industry bodies, helping farmers across the South Coast improve animal health, welfare and productivity. Topics we’ve recently presented on include:

  • Calf health and disease prevention
  • Lameness reduction and hoof care
  • Reproductive management and AI
  • Optimising milk production and herd performance

We also speak at community events and club meetings throughout the year, such as:

  • Local beef producer group sessions
  • Probus Club presentations
  • Farm tours and field days
  • Industry workshops and training sessions

These events give us the opportunity to share practical advice, answer questions, and stay connected to the real-world challenges our clients face.

INVESTING IN EDUCATION & FUTURE VETS

Our practice is committed to building the future of the veterinary profession. We actively support:

  • Final-year veterinary students from universities across Australia, who join us for hands-on clinical placements
  • TAFE Certificate IV veterinary nursing students, many of whom have gone on to join our team
  • Regular continuing education for our own vets and nurses, including conferences, workshops, and online training

We share our knowledge because we care - about the quality of care animals receive, and about fostering the passion, integrity and skill of the next generation.

Community and Education

LOOKING AHEAD

Our connection to the community is at the heart of who we are. Whether it’s giving back through sponsorships, mentoring future professionals, or delivering hands-on training for local producers - we’re here to make a lasting difference.
