Protecting your pet’s health - one tooth at a time.

Dental health is more than just a bright smile - it’s a key part of your pet’s overall wellbeing. At Nowra Veterinary Hospital and Bay & Basin Animal Hospital, we offer both routine and advanced dental care for dogs, cats, rabbits, ferrets, and other small mammals.

With the right equipment and experience on site, we’re able to treat everything from mild plaque build-up to severe periodontal disease, all with the comfort and safety your pet deserves.

WHY DENTAL HEALTH MATTERS

Dental disease is extremely common, especially in small-breed dogs and older pets. Over 50% of cats and dogs over the age of 3 have some degree of dental disease and it often goes unnoticed until it becomes painful or affects other parts of the body.

Left untreated, dental disease can lead to:

  • Gum infections (gingivitis and periodontitis)
  • Tooth loss
  • Pain and difficulty eating
  • Bad breath
  • Spread of bacteria to the heart, liver and kidneys

SIGNS YOUR PET MIGHT HAVE DENTAL DISEASE

Keep an eye out for these common symptoms:

  • Bad breath (a key early warning sign)
  • Drooling, especially while eating
  • Chewing on one side or dropping food
  • Blood on chew toys or in the water bowl
  • Red or swollen gums
  • Visible tartar or discoloured teeth
  • Pawing at the mouth or showing signs of discomfort

If you notice any of these, we recommend booking a dental check with our team.
