FAECAL EGG COUNTS

Sheep, goats and alpacas are significantly more susceptible to high worm burdens than their bovine friends. Unlike cattle that develop a resistance to worms in adulthood, small ruminants and camelids are susceptible to the effects of heavy worm burdens their whole lives.

Regular rotation of the drench used for worming will minimise the chance of a drench resistance but how do you know what you’re using is actually working? Faecal egg counts are a valuable tool that can determine the worm burden in your animals and whether your drench is working.
